New ROOK is live! Plus some notes on the reboot...

Updated: May 14, 2023

Hey, first off, the brand new ROOK (Bridge & Sword: Awakenings #1) is live!! I'm really excited about the new face of the series, and the changes that have been made to the books, especially ROOK itself, which got a pretty massive re-write. Being my first (real) novel, it's always been a source of both frustration that I wasn't able to quite get the story the way I wanted, so as one reader wrote me, this is probably akin to a director's cut, lol. With a lot more books under my belt these days, I think it's now much closer to the story I wanted to tell.

Book Description:

From USA TODAY bestselling author, a psychic warfare alternative history set in a gritty version of Earth. Contains strong romantic elements – a book in the Bridge & Sword World. Apocalyptic. Psychic Romance.

“You are the Bridge…” Allie Taylor lives in a world populated by seers, a second race discovered on Earth at the beginning of the 20th Century. Psychic, hyper-sexual and enslaved by governments, corporations and wealthy humans, seers are an exotic fascination to Allie, but one she knows she’ll likely never encounter, given how rich you have to be to get near one.

Then a strange man shows up at her work –– then another –– and pretty soon Allie finds herself on the run from the law, labeled a terrorist and in the middle of a race war she didn’t even know existed. Yanked out of her life by the mysterious and uncommunicative Revik, Allie discovers her blood may not be as “human” as she always thought, and the world of seers might not be quite as distant as she always imagined.

When Revik tells her she’s the Bridge, a mystical being meant to usher in the evolution of humanity––or possibly its extinction––Allie must choose between the race that raised her and the one where she might truly belong.

NOTE: An alternate version of this book was previously published as book 1 in the “ALLIE’S WAR” series (this version has been heavily revised/edited prior to re-release).

Standalone novel. No cliffhanger.

*Warning: this book contains graphic language, sex, and violence. Mature readers only. Not intended for young readers.*

ROOK is book 1 in the Bridge & Sword: Awakenings series - a series set in the Bridge & Sword World. It is also related to the Quentin Black World, and takes place in the wider history/world of the seers.

Next in the Bridge & Sword world: SHIELD (Bridge & Sword: Awakenings #2) – coming soon! Or if you’d like to read more about seers, check out BLACK IN WHITE (Quentin Black Mystery #1), which occurs in a version of Earth much closer to our own.

THE BRIDGE & SWORD WORLD encompasses a number of dark, gritty science fiction and apocalyptic story arcs with romantic (and sexy) elements, starring Alyson Taylor and her partner, dark and dangerous infiltrator, Dehgoies Revik. For fans of gritty, character-driven science fiction and fantasy worlds, filled with twists and turns and backstabbing betrayals, with heroes and villains who can be equally relatable (and sometimes the same people). The Bridge & Sword books span continents and historical periods as Allie and Revik try to save the human and seer races from destroying one another, and keep their friends and loved ones alive in the process.

Also, since it's come out and the old versions of this series came down, I've gotten a number of questions I thought I'd answer here:

Q: When are the rest of the books coming?

A: They are going to be released more or less one every 2 weeks now that ROOK is live. The dates are now up on my "UPCOMING" page, and while subject to change if anything crazy happens, I'm hoping I can keep to that schedule pretty strictly.

Q: Are they all going to be exclusive to Amazon?

A: Yes, for a short time at least, they are going to be exclusive to Amazon. Huge apologies to anyone this inconveniences. It was the only way I could put them in Kindle Unlimited for a short time (Amazon's subscription service) and I thought this was the best way to get the most eyeballs on them, frankly. I really do want to go wide with them, but it won't be right away.

Q: (related to above) How can I get a copy if I don't read on a Kindle?

A: There are three ways you can get a copy. 1) If you buy a copy on Amazon and send me the receipt, I will glad send you an epub version. 2) There is a free Kindle App that you can use on just about any tablet, phone, etc., so you can read a kindle version that way. Here is the link to the free program: https://www.amazon.com/kindle-dbs/fd/kcp or 3) I'll have paperback versions up VERY SOON, and you always have the option to buy those, either from an online vendor of your choosing or by ordering it at your local bookstore.

Q: What if I bought the books before? Will they update on my Kindle?

A: No, unfortunately, I made the decison to reboot the whole series, which means I lost the reviews on the previous books and changed the series name. To make it easier for previous readers of the books to grab the new copies, though, I've decided to release them all at 99 cents for the first 1-2 weeks or release, so previous fans (and others) can get them at a discounted cost. They will go up to regular price (all but Rook, probably) following the initial sale period.

I think these are the big ones I'm getting, but let me know if I missed any! :)

Really hope you enjoy the new version of the series!!

Best, JC
