My Europe Research + Writing Trip Photos - Part II (Barcelona)

I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more of Barcelona, since I'm going to be here for 4-5 weeks more, but here is my first few days here. I don't have any photos of the inside of Sagrada Familia yet or any of the Gaudi houses, but I have tickets / time slots for later this week, so I should be able to post more details on some of these places soon. :)

In the meantime, here are some shots from my more casual wanders around town...

ree

The flight into Barcelona. I didn't realize at the time, but you can almost see my apartment from this shot, lol. It's just to the left of where the photo cuts off. :)

ree

My writing desk while I'm here (although I'm finding myself writing a lot on the couch too, lol, which is becoming more of a norm for me for some reason)

ree

Here's the length of the common area of the studio I'm renting while I'm here.

ree

Snuggly little couch area :)

ree

Kitchen, which I have all to myself, which is really nice.

ree

Balcony view :)

ree

Bicycles, near my place in El Born

ree

Gothic stuff in the Gothic Quarter... this is Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar (this might technically be in El Born, too)

ree

Near my place in El Born

ree

David Bowie... just because. He seems to be popular here. I see a lot of artwork and tourist clothes / items that have images of him, including the Ziggy Stardust years.

ree

La Rambla, from the edges of Placa de Catalunya (overlooking the subway)

ree

My first real grocery run here in Barcelona - fruit, eggs, bread, meat, cheese, yogurt. After having stomach problems for so many days, it was nice to be able to prepare my own food.

ree

These pig legs are for sale everywhere, lol. This is the shop where I initial bought food, but I've seen entire shops devoted to different types of cured ham.

ree

Walking along C. de Jaume I (towards Plaça de Sant Jaume)

ree

A view from Plaça de Sant Jaume

ree

Sculpture in Plaça Sant Miquel

I don't remember exactly which street this is - more wandering in the Gothic Quarter

More wanderings in the Gothic Quarter...

Part of a church in the Gothic Quarter...

ree

Cathedral of Barcelona - complete with Samsung banner on top (lol)

ree

Statue of RAMON BERENGUER III, EL GRAN (1950), de FREDERIC MARÈS

ree

Odd store display of Dali on a rhino... I mean, who am I to judge? :)

ree

Walking around the Gothic Quarter after dark...

ree

I love this magic shop - The King of Magic :)

ree

Flamenco place - I might have to get tickets for this, I love watching flamenco dancing :)

ree

Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

ree

The greenhouse at Barcelona Park

ree

There are ruins inside here, pretty interesting :) The sign says "No War!" President Macron (of France) was in town, so there were anti-war protests in a lot of places where he went. He visited the museum right around the street from where I'm staying, so there were police and protesters all over the place and I had to walk around because of roadblocks.

ree

I think this building is part of the zoo (it's right up against it anyway)

ree

This building was called "The Three Dragons." It was, unfortunately, closed, lol. It's on the edge of Barcelona Park.

ree

The paddle boat pond in Barcelona Park (the park is only a block from where I'm staying in El Born, which is really nice)

ree

The inside of the greenhouse (this was closed too, unfortunately, so this is me peering through the slats to what was inside)

ree

Cascada del Parc de la Ciutadella (City Park Fountain)

ree

Griffins on the edges of the City Park fountain

ree

Neptune on the City Park fountain

ree

A kinetic sculpture inside the park

ree

This is part of the City Park Fountain as well (the upper level)

ree

I just love all the different architectural styles here... very cool :)

ree

This was kind of a trip - it's like they built a separate building of glass and metal around the original structure and blended the two.

ree

Casa Batlló - one of the more famous Gaudi houses. I'm going to be seeing the inside of this for a night tour / show later this week. :)

The crowds were pretty insane on Saturday compared to the weekdays

Okay, I think that's probably enough for now, lol. I'm taking WAY too many photos clearly. I hope you enjoyed them, though, and I'll post more soon in a few days!

Best wishes,

ree
