Hurrah! The first round of proofs are on their way for the paperback version of The Morph, the first book in my new science fiction / shifter series. I got a little over-ambitious last night, and ended up working on the paperback cover until the wee hours...mainly so I could do a test run on it before I settled on a final, but also because I haven't worked on paperbacks in awhile, so wanted to make sure I wasn't too rusty in terms of the formatting and whatnot.
I admit, I got a little experimental with colors and effects, so I might end up re-doing the design (below), that is, if it doesn't work in terms of the physical version...I was just curious to see if it works with a different color scheme on the back cover versus the front, though.
Part of this was just me having fun. Part of it was because, like the initial Allie's War covers, it just seemed a bit too, well...green. I seem to have totally given myself over to my green fetish as it is...yet another reason why I'm still contemplating hiring a real graphic artist to redo most if not all of my books. I'm still kicking around the idea of a Kickstarter (crowd-sourcing) project to accomplish this, and/or to revive the graphic novel version of Rook, which was a heck of a lot of fun.
Anyway, all pre-coffee pontifications aside, here is the promo version (below) - let me know what you think! I should be getting the first proof in about a week, give or take, so it will be interesting to see how the colors translate in the physical copy, and whether they just clash horribly or sort of...work.
Give or take.
In either case, the paperback will be coming relatively soon. Formatting the inside tends to be the part that takes the longest (for me, anyway, at this point), so even if the cover needs work, and the inside tweaks and/or fixes, the bulk of the work is likely done.
If you want to win a signed copy, I'm giving one away (in the post below)...I'll probably do another giveaway when the paperback is finalized, too.
